Job Description

gpac is looking for a skilled and reliable HVAC Technician to join our team in a ready-to-eat (RTE) food manufacturing environment. The HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems throughout our facility—including cold production areas—to ensure optimal environmental conditions for food safety, product quality, and employee comfort. This position plays a vital role in supporting compliance with USDA, FDA, and HACCP standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HVAC and refrigeration systems including chillers, freezers, and air handling units.

  • Perform preventive maintenance to optimize equipment performance and reduce unscheduled downtime.

  • Monitor and adjust systems to maintain required temperature and humidity levels in production, storage, and office spaces.

  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control issues in HVAC/R systems.

  • Maintain accurate service and maintenance records in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with production and quality assurance teams to ensure food safety environmental conditions.

  • Respond quickly to HVAC/R system breakdowns—especially in temperature-critical areas—to minimize operational disruption.

  • Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols, while performing maintenance tasks.

  • Assist with the evaluation and recommendation of equipment upgrades or replacements.

  • Ensure compliance with EPA regulations for refrigerant handling, usage, and disposal.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on system efficiency and energy conservation.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification in HVAC/R strongly preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in commercial or industrial HVAC/R maintenance; food manufacturing or cold storage experience highly desirable.

  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC/R, electrical, and control systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

  • Comfortable working in cold environments for extended periods with the proper use of PPE.

  • Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and be on-call as required.
