Safety Manager – Mechanical Construction

A well-established mechanical contractor in the Kansas City area is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead and strengthen safety efforts across its construction projects and field operations.

The company performs commercial and industrial HVAC, plumbing, piping, sheet metal, and related mechanical work. This position will work closely with field leadership, project management, and company executives to ensure employees have the training, resources, and support needed to complete work safely.

The ideal candidate will be visible in the field, comfortable building relationships with craft professionals and project teams, and able to balance accountability with a practical understanding of construction operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the company’s construction safety program.

  • Regularly visit active jobsites throughout the Kansas City area.

  • Conduct safety inspections, audits, and job hazard assessments.

  • Identify unsafe conditions and work with field leadership to implement corrective actions.

  • Develop and maintain site-specific safety plans, policies, and procedures.

  • Facilitate employee orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training.

  • Support pre-task planning, lift planning, fall protection, confined-space, excavation, and other high-risk work activities.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, company policies, and client-specific safety standards.

  • Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage.

  • Complete required documentation and track corrective actions through resolution.

  • Maintain safety records, training documentation, and regulatory reporting.

  • Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field employees to promote a strong safety culture.

  • Assist with subcontractor safety expectations and compliance.

  • Monitor safety trends and recommend improvements to reduce risk and prevent incidents.

Qualifications

  • Previous safety experience within commercial or industrial construction.

  • Mechanical construction experience is strongly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, piping, sheet metal, welding, fabrication, or related field activities is helpful.

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA construction standards and jobsite safety practices.

  • Experience conducting inspections, incident investigations, and employee training.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with field employees, project teams, clients, and company leadership.

  • Comfortable addressing safety concerns directly and professionally.

  • Strong organizational, documentation, and follow-through skills.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to local project sites.

  • OSHA 30 certification is preferred.

  • CHST, CSP, ASP, or similar safety credentials are a plus.

  • A degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent industry experience will be considered.
