Controls Technician

The Controls Technician is responsible for supporting and maintaining industrial automation systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations. This role involves troubleshooting, modifying, and optimizing PLC-based control systems, as well as collaborating with maintenance and production teams to resolve technical issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and maintain industrial automation systems under the direction of the Controls Group Manager.

  • Troubleshoot, interpret, and modify PLC logic, electrical drawings, and hydraulic schematics.

  • Monitor control systems via FactoryTalk client interfaces and PanelView displays.

  • Assist maintenance and production teams with equipment commissioning, troubleshooting, and repairs.

  • Ensure adherence to electrical and programming standards.

  • Analyze and optimize existing project code to improve process performance.

  • Communicate effectively with management, supervision, and plant personnel.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in PLC Programming or related field.

  • 0–5 years of experience in industrial controls/automation.

  • Proficiency in Rockwell software (RSLogix 5, 500, 5000, FactoryTalk View SE, Historian SE, Transaction Manager).

  • Knowledge of programming languages (Ladder Logic, SFC, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram).

  • Experience with drives, motor controls, and motion control (ABB, SEW Eurodrive, AB).

  • Understanding of Ethernet/IP networking.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong foundation in PLC programming and industrial control systems.

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving ability in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proactive, resourceful, and able to work independently or in teams.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in/around manufacturing equipment.

  • Capable of climbing steps and ladders to access elevated plant areas.

  • Approximately 50% sedentary work and 50% hands-on interaction with equipment.
