Position Description:
A Quality Assurance (QA) Manager specializing in marine coatings and adherence to Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Standard Items holds a crucial role in ensuring the quality, safety, and compliance of work performed on U.S. Navy vessels. Their responsibilities are comprehensive, spanning from planning and procedure development to inspections, documentation, and continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • 4 to 6 years of Quality Assurance inspection experience or equivalent trade related.
  • Experience in NAVSEA standard items and NBPI or NACE equivalent. 
  • Experience in coating inspections (NACE Certified) and past Management experience preferred

Duties and Responsiblities

  • Establishing and maintaining the Quality Control (QC) program Developing, implementing, monitoring, and modifying quality and inspection management processes and procedures. Developing and maintaining the Quality Assurance / Quality Control Manual. Developing and reviewing Test and Inspection Plans (TIPs) and Process Control Procedures (PCPs) according to NAVSEA Standard Item 009-04.
  • Ensuring adherence to NAVSEA standards and regulations Guaranteeing strict compliance with NAVSEA standards, such as NAVSEA Standard Items 009-26 and 009-32. Ensuring compliance with relevant OSHA Maritime safety protocols. Staying current on all applicable NAVSEA regulations and updates.
  • Overseeing and conducting inspections This includes supervising QC inspection personnel, ensuring materials meet specifications, performing site walk-throughs, conducting daily on-site inspections, overseeing in-process tests and inspections, and conducting internal audits of the QP1 Program.
  • Managing documentation and reporting Key tasks involve maintaining accurate documentation of QA activities and inspections, correlating inspection reports, keeping the project manager informed of issues, maintaining the technical library, preparing reports for management and clients, and documenting internal audits.
  • Collaboration and communication This involves effective communication and coordination with all parties involved in projects, collaborating with project managers, production staff, and safety personnel on quality issues, working with suppliers and customers, consulting with legal counsel, and serving as a liaison with external standards agencies.
  • Training and personnel development Responsibilities include providing leadership, developing and assisting in training for supervisors and test directors, coordinating with management to ensure personnel have required skills and certifications, and leading and training teams of technicians and inspectors.
  • Continuous improvement This involves analyzing quality data, implementing continuous quality improvement programs, facilitating improvement processes, and identifying and implementing corrective actions for quality problems.
