Job Title: Purchasing Agent – Residential Construction Job Summary
The Purchasing Agent is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials, labor, and services required for residential construction projects. This role ensures cost-effective purchasing while maintaining quality standards and project timelines.
Key Responsibilities
Review construction plans, specifications, and schedules to determine material and labor needs
Solicit bids from subcontractors and suppliers
Analyze and compare pricing, scope, and contracts
Negotiate pricing and terms to achieve cost savings
Issue purchase orders and subcontract agreements
Maintain relationships with vendors and subcontractors
Track material deliveries and ensure timely supply to job sites
Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and estimators
Monitor budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities
Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and pricing
Ensure compliance with company policies and building regulations
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business, or related field (preferred)
2–5+ years of purchasing or construction experience
Knowledge of residential construction processes and materials
Strong negotiation and analytical skills
Proficiency in construction management or purchasing software (e.g., Buildertrend, SAP, or similar)
Excellent communication and organizational skills
