Position Summary We are seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer to design, analyze, and deliver mechanical systems for buildings (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, etc.). The ideal candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure system performance, energy efficiency, constructability, and compliance with codes and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Develop mechanical system designs including HVAC, chilled water, boilers/chillers, air handling units, piping, ductwork, and ventilation systems.
Prepare calculations (load, flow, pressure, etc.), equipment selections, specifications, and construction documents.
Coordinate mechanical work with structural, electrical, plumbing, architectural, and fire protection disciplines.
Review and evaluate performance criteria: system efficiency, indoor air quality, acoustic/humidity controls.
Engage in energy modeling, life cycle cost analysis, sustainable design (e.g. LEED, WELL, energy code compliance).
Participate in project meetings, site visits, and construction support to ensure design intent is met in the field.
Mentor junior engineers and review their work.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related)
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred (or ability to obtain)
Experience (3-7+ years) in building mechanical systems design for commercial, institutional, or industrial buildings.
Strong knowledge of HVAC load calculations, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, refrigeration cycles.
Proficiency with CAD / Revit / BIM tools.
Familiarity with codes and standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, local building codes).
Good communication skills; ability to collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and other engineering disciplines.
