Senior Payroll Specialist | Multi-State + Union Payroll

A growing organization in the construction and engineering space is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to support a high-volume, multi-state payroll environment across both union and non-union employees.

This role is hands-on and highly visible, working closely with operations and HR to ensure payroll accuracy, compliance, and consistency across multiple business units. Ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and understands how payroll directly impacts field operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage new hire setup and payroll onboarding, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements (including I-9 verification)
  • Process weekly union payroll across multiple jobsites, ensuring accuracy in time, wage rates, and agreement compliance
  • Handle union reporting and benefit contributions, including resolving discrepancies to avoid penalties
  • Maintain and update union wage rates and payroll setups in alignment with current agreements
  • Process bi-weekly payroll for staff across multiple entities and states
  • Partner with HR and internal teams to ensure accurate payroll changes, documentation, and audit compliance

Qualifications:

  • Experience in payroll or accounting, preferably within construction or field-based environments
  • Strong understanding of union payroll, multi-state processing, and compliance regulations
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Comfortable working with sensitive and confidential information
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
  • Experience with ERP/payroll systems (Vista or similar preferred)
