Structural Steel Detailer
Location: In-Office Position
Compensation: $80,000 – $110,000 + Benefits
A growing structural steel fabrication company specializing in custom bridge systems and complex structural steel projects is seeking a Structural Steel Detailer to join their team. This organization designs, engineers, and fabricates unique steel structures used for infrastructure, parks, industrial access, and specialty projects across the United States.
This is an excellent opportunity for a detailer who enjoys working on technically challenging and highly customized projects while collaborating closely with engineering, project management, and fabrication teams. The role plays a critical part in translating design intent into accurate fabrication and erection drawings that support successful project execution.
This is an in-office position where the Detailer will work closely with internal teams to support projects from initial design through fabrication and production.
Produce structural steel shop drawings and erection drawings for fabrication and field installation
Interpret and work from structural and architectural drawings, engineering models, and project specifications
Develop accurate 3D models and detailed fabrication drawings using steel detailing software
Prepare material takeoffs, bolt lists, and bills of materials
Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to resolve design or detailing issues
Ensure drawings meet fabrication standards, project specifications, and industry codes
Revise drawings as required based on engineering changes, RFIs, or field conditions
Assist with clash detection and constructability review to improve fabrication and installation efficiency
Support project teams throughout the design, detailing, and production phases
3+ years of experience in structural steel detailing
Experience detailing any of the following is strongly considered:
Commercial structural steel
Bridge or heavy civil steel
Pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMB)
Miscellaneous metals
Tekla experience highly preferred
Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural construction drawings
Strong understanding of steel fabrication processes and structural components
Knowledge of AISC standards and detailing practices is a plus
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple project deadlines
Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineering and fabrication teams
Salary: $80,000 – $110,000 (based on experience)
