Job Description

Associate Attorney – Business Law (Transactions & Commercial Litigation)

We are seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our Business Law practice group and contribute meaningfully to both litigation and transactional matters.

This role offers a balanced mix of transactional work and commercial litigation. The ideal candidate is comfortable drafting complex agreements, advising business clients, and also stepping into litigation matters from pleadings through resolution.

BOOK OF BUSINESS HIGHLY PREFERRED...but not required.

Transactional

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including purchase agreements, operating agreements, partnership agreements, and financing documents
  • Assist with mergers and acquisitions, business formations, restructurings, and asset sales
  • Provide ongoing counsel to business clients regarding compliance, governance, and risk management

Commercial Litigation

  • Manage cases from inception through resolution in state and federal court
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery
  • Conduct legal research and develop litigation strategy
  • Participate in hearings, mediations, and settlement negotiations
  • Prepare cases for trial and assist in trial proceedings

Client Engagement

  • Communicate directly with clients regarding strategy, deadlines, and expectations
  • Develop strong working relationships with business clients
  • Contribute to practical, solution-oriented legal strategies aligned with client goals

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Licensed and in good standing in Illinois (or eligible for admission)
  • 2–5 years of experience in business law with exposure to both transactions and commercial litigation
  • Professional confidence in client interaction and courtroom settings
