A well-established litigation firm in Chicago is seeking a talented Senior Associate to join its insurance coverage team. The firm concentrates on insurance defense, insurance coverage, and appellate litigation, and is known for its efficiency, integrity, and exceptional client service.

The insurance coverage group handles all aspects of coverage analysis and litigation, including coverage opinions, position letters, declaratory judgment actions, policy drafting and review, and risk transfer strategies. The firm fosters a collaborative and professional culture, emphasizing practical solutions and strong advocacy.

Position Overview

The firm is looking for a Senior Associate Attorney with 5–10 years of experience in insurance coverage to manage complex matters involving commercial and personal lines policies. The ideal candidate will be involved in both advisory and litigation work, offering direct client contact, strategic input, and leadership opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft coverage opinions, reservation of rights letters, and disclaimers
  • Advise insurers on duty to defend, indemnify, and independent counsel obligations
  • Litigate declaratory judgment actions and coverage disputes in state and federal court
  • Manage discovery, motion practice, and dispositive motions in coverage litigation
  • Handle contribution and recovery actions among carriers
  • Review and revise policy language
  • Assist clients with risk management strategies and coverage resolution planning
  • Coordinate with defense counsel on underlying liability matters to align coverage positions

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice in Illinois; additional bar admissions a plus
  • 5–10 years of experience in insurance coverage, including litigation and policy analysis
  • Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills
  • Experience with general liability, commercial auto, umbrella, excess, and other lines
  • Litigation experience, including drafting pleadings, motions, and managing discovery
  • Strong communication skills with a client-centered approach
