Structural Steel Detailer / Checker

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Detailer / Checker to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience detailing and checking structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects using Tekla Structures or similar detailing software. This position plays a key role in ensuring shop drawings are accurate, complete, and ready for fabrication.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review shop drawings for structural steel and miscellaneous metals.
  • Check detailing packages for accuracy, completeness, and constructability.
  • Interpret structural and architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, fabricators, and field personnel.
  • Resolve drawing conflicts and respond to RFIs as needed.
  • Ensure detailing complies with project specifications and fabrication standards.
  • Maintain project schedules and meet drawing deadlines.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of structural steel detailing and/or checking experience.
  • Proficiency with Tekla Structures (preferred); SDS/2 experience is also considered.
  • Experience detailing structural steel and miscellaneous metals, including stairs, railings, and ornamental metals.
  • Strong understanding of steel fabrication and erection practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of AISC standards and AWS D1.1 welding requirements.
  • Experience working with commercial construction projects.
  • Associate's degree or technical drafting education is a plus.
