Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret a wide range of insurance policies to evaluate complex coverage issues across various lines of business.
  • Draft high-quality legal documents, including coverage opinions, position letters, and detailed reservations of rights.
  • Represent insurers in demanding coverage disputes, including declaratory judgment actions, subrogation claims, and bad faith litigation.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and draft persuasive motions, briefs, and other pleadings.
  • Actively participate in all phases of litigation, including discovery, taking and defending depositions, alternative dispute resolution (mediations), and trials when necessary.
  • Manage a diverse caseload independently while contributing expertise and insight to team strategy.
  • Maintain a billable hour requirement between 1,800 and 1,950 hours annually.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active Bar admission in South Carolina is required.
  • 3+ years of experience focused on insurance coverage and/or complex insurance defense litigation.
  • Demonstrable strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail for policy interpretation.
  • Exceptional research, legal writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a significant caseload independently while seamlessly collaborating with partners and associates on team matters.
