Job Description

Litigation Partner: Equity Ownership Opportunity

A well-established law firm in Chicago's Northwest Suburbs is seeking an experienced Litigation Attorney at the Partner or Senior Attorney level who has a genuine interest in transitioning into firm ownership. With an established client base, and a diverse practice spanning Estate Planning and Administration, Civil and Commercial Litigation, Business Law, and Commercial Real Estate, the firm offers an opportunity for an accomplished litigator to take on a meaningful leadership role.

We are looking for a strong, hands-on litigator first and foremost. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys practicing law, wants to mentor younger attorneys, and has an interest in helping grow and eventually own an established legal practice.

The Opportunity

  • Lead and manage complex litigation matters from initial evaluation through resolution, including trial when necessary.
  • Handle a variety of civil and commercial disputes, potentially including contested trusts, estates, probate matters, business disputes, and commercial real estate litigation.
  • Work directly with established clients while developing and maintaining new relationships.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to associate attorneys.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys across the firm's estate planning, business, and real estate practices.
  • Participate in business development and identify opportunities to expand the firm's existing practice.
  • Take an active role in the firm's long-term growth, leadership, and potential ownership transition.

Qualifications

  • Significant substantive litigation experience.
  • Strong background in Civil Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Business Litigation, Trust and Estate Litigation, or related contested matters.
  • Ability to independently manage complex litigation, develop case strategy, and represent clients effectively in court.
  • Trial experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Trust and Estate Litigation is a significant advantage but not an absolute requirement.
  • Interest in mentoring and developing less-experienced attorneys.
  • Willingness to participate in business development and further expansion of an established practice.
  • Illinois Bar admission.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented leadership style.

Path to Equity Ownership: A genuine opportunity for an experienced litigator interested in becoming an owner and helping shape the future of an established firm.

Established Practice: Join a firm with decades of history, an existing client base, and longstanding relationships throughout the Chicago market.

No Rigid Billable-Hour Requirement: The emphasis is on quality work, client relationships, accountability, and results rather than meeting an arbitrary annual billable target.

Leadership & Mentorship: Play an important role in developing younger attorneys and strengthening the firm's litigation capabilities.

Collaborative Culture: Work in an environment that prioritizes teamwork, professional respect, and exceptional service to both clients and colleagues.

Business Development: Build upon existing client relationships while having the opportunity to cultivate your own business and expand the firm's practice.

The Ideal Candidate

We are interested in speaking with experienced litigators who have reached a point in their careers where they want more than simply handling cases.

This opportunity is particularly attractive to attorneys who want a meaningful voice in the direction of their firm, enjoy mentoring younger associates, and have a genuine desire to transition into equity ownership.

An existing book of business is not a stated requirement. The ability and desire to develop business and contribute to the firm's continued growth are important.

This is an opportunity to move beyond simply practicing law and help lead, grow, and eventually own an established legal practice.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, age, color, sex (including pregnancy), religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, military status, genetic information, or any other status protected by applicable laws or regulations.
