Assistant Project Manager – Structural Steel
Position Overview
We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support the execution of structural steel erection projects, including heavy structural steel and miscellaneous metals. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to grow their career in project management within a stable, locally focused steel contractor.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers in overseeing structural steel and misc. metals projects from preconstruction through closeout
- Assist with project scheduling, budgeting, and cost tracking
- Coordinate with field teams, foremen, subcontractors, and vendors
- Manage RFIs, submittals, and change orders
- Track material procurement, fabrication status, and deliveries
- Maintain project documentation, reports, and logs
- Assist with project meetings and client communication
- Monitor project progress and help ensure timelines and budgets are met
- Support quality control and safety compliance efforts
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of experience in construction, preferably in structural steel or related trades
- Familiarity with structural steel erection and/or miscellaneous metals preferred
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with construction software is a plus
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities
