Overview:

A growing and well-established law firm in Chicago is seeking an experienced and proactive Office Manager / HR Manager to oversee the firm’s human resources functions and daily office operations. This position plays a key dual role ensuring smooth office management while executing HR policies, procedures, and compliance.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on professional who thrives in a fast-paced legal environment and can effectively manage recruiting, employee relations, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Office Management Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily office operations, including supplies, vendor relationships, and office systems

  • Maintain professional, organized, and efficient office spaces

  • Manage vendor relationships and coordinate service providers

  • Monitor office workflows and operational efficiency

  • Liaise with building management and oversee daily facilities management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for IT services

  • Ensure smooth day-to-day administrative operations

Human Resources Responsibilities

  • Manage candidate screening, interviewing, background checks, offer documentation, and onboarding

  • Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with Illinois and federal labor laws

  • Handle HR functions including PTO tracking, payroll processing, benefits administration, and employee records

  • Develop and implement HR procedures and internal policies

  • Administer staff performance management processes, including annual evaluations

  • Manage employee relations and conflict resolution

  • Plan and assist with firm-sponsored events and team initiatives

  • Perform other related duties as needed

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience in human resources, office management, and supervisory roles

  • Knowledge of Illinois labor laws and HR compliance

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent time management and project management abilities

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion

  • High degree of professionalism and judgment

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience with HRIS systems (Paylocity preferred)

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently

  • Collaborative mindset with interest in supporting the long-term success of the firm

  • Law firm experience preferred

Work Requirements

  • Daily presence in the Chicago office

  • In-office position (Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM)

  • Flexibility to work after hours or weekends when necessary
