Job Title: CNC Setup Technician
Location: Mt. Vernon, NY
We are seeking a skilled and reliable CNC Setup Technician to join our production team. This role is responsible for setting up and preparing CNC machines for production runs, ensuring that all equipment operates efficiently and accurately according to job specifications. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of machining processes, tooling, and machine operation, with a focus on minimizing downtime and maintaining part quality.
Set up CNC machines (mills, lathes, or Swiss machines) according to part specifications, blueprints, and setup sheets.
Install and adjust tools, fixtures, and machine offsets as required for each job.
Load and verify programs using CNC control systems (Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, etc.).
Conduct first-piece inspections and make necessary adjustments to ensure part accuracy.
Collaborate with machinists, programmers, and quality inspectors to troubleshoot and resolve setup-related issues.
Maintain setup documentation and update tooling or program data as needed.
Ensure machines are properly maintained and cleaned between setups.
Support continuous improvement by identifying process inefficiencies or tooling improvements.
Adhere to all safety policies and maintain a clean, organized work area.
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certificate or apprenticeship in machining preferred.
2+ years of experience in CNC machine setup, preferably in a job shop or high-mix, low-volume environment.
Strong understanding of G-code and M-code and experience with CNC control systems.
Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, GD&T symbols, and setup sheets.
Skilled in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, etc.).
Familiar with tooling selection, offsets, and feeds & speeds.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Experience with multi-axis CNC machines or Swiss-style lathes.
Knowledge of CAM software or program editing.
Lean manufacturing or 5S familiarity.
