Job Description

An established waste and recycling company is seeking a dependable Diesel Mechanic / Fleet Maintenance Technician to keep its trucks and equipment safe, reliable, and ready for daily operations. This hands-on position supports residential, commercial, and dumpster collection services.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel trucks and related equipment.

  • Troubleshoot engine, transmission, brake, steering, suspension, electrical, and hydraulic issues.

  • Inspect and repair collection equipment, including lifting mechanisms, compactors, and associated components.

  • Address defects reported by drivers and communicate repair needs with the operations team.

  • Complete scheduled maintenance and repairs efficiently to reduce downtime.

  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, labor, and parts used.

  • Identify needed parts and coordinate with management on repair priorities.

  • Follow safe work practices and maintain an organized shop.

Qualifications

  • Experience repairing diesel trucks, heavy equipment, or similar commercial vehicles.

  • Working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and air brake systems.

  • Ability to use diagnostic equipment and read service manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with drivers and management.

  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Experience

  • Waste collection truck or vocational truck maintenance.

  • Experience with roll-off systems, refuse bodies, or compaction equipment.

  • Welding and fabrication skills.

  • CDL or willingness to obtain one.

  • Diesel technology training or relevant certifications.

Work Environment

This position involves hands-on shop and equipment maintenance, including standing, bending, climbing, and handling tools and parts. Some work may take place outdoors.
