Remote Load Planner
Location: Remote – USA
Compensation: Up to $70,000+ DOE
Employment Type: Full-Time
We’re Looking for a Transportation Load Planner — Not an Analyst
We are seeking an experienced Load Planner who understands what it takes to move freight safely, legally, and profitably.
This is a hands-on transportation position for someone who has actually planned and coordinated freight loads and understands that successful load planning requires more than moving information around on a spreadsheet.
We are not looking for a logistics manager or transportation sales manager. We are seeking an experienced routing and load planner.
The right candidate understands different types of freight, equipment, haul requirements, routing considerations, permits, dimensions, weights, safety requirements, and the operational realities that come with getting a load from Point A to Point B.
What You’ll Do
- Plan and coordinate freight loads with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and profitability
- Determine the appropriate equipment and transportation method for various types of freight
- Understand load dimensions, weight, securement requirements, and equipment capabilities
- Plan routes while considering road restrictions, bridges, permits, clearance, weight limits, and other transportation requirements
- Coordinate oversized, overweight, specialized, and/or heavy-haul freight as applicable
- Work with drivers, dispatchers, operations personnel, customers, and transportation providers to ensure loads are executed properly
- Maximize equipment utilization and look for opportunities to improve routing and reduce empty miles
- Ensure loads are planned in accordance with DOT, safety, permit, and company requirements
- Anticipate potential transportation problems before they become operational issues
- Make practical decisions based on real-world transportation conditions
- Communicate changes and requirements clearly to drivers and operations teams
- Monitor planned loads and make adjustments when conditions change
- Maintain accurate load and transportation documentation
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in freight load planning, transportation planning and dispatch/operations
- Strong understanding of different freight types and transportation equipment
- Experience planning loads based on weight, dimensions, equipment, route, permits, and safety requirements
- Knowledge of different types of hauls and the operational requirements associated with them
- Understanding of DOT regulations and transportation safety requirements
- Ability to identify the most efficient way to move a load without compromising safety or compliance
- Strong knowledge of the practical side of trucking and freight transportation
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Detail-oriented, but able to make decisions quickly when transportation conditions change
