Job Description

Seeking an experienced Staff Accountant/Controller with a strong background in the waste hauling industry to support day-to-day accounting operations for a growing organization. This individual will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end processes, and ensuring overall financial integrity.  Compensation D.O.E. Base plus Bonus.  This is a REMOTE role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily accounting functions including A/P, A/R, bank reconciliations, and general ledger entries.
  • Process invoices, payments, and customer billing specific to waste hauling operations.
  • Utilize QuickBooks to maintain accurate and timely financial data.
  • Work within Navusoft to manage billing cycles, customer accounts, service changes, and route-related financial data.
  • Assist with month-end close activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis related to hauling operations.
  • Identify discrepancies, research issues, and provide corrective action as needed.
  • Partner with operations, dispatch, and customer service teams to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Maintain compliance with internal controls, company policies, and industry-specific billing standards.
  • Provide ad-hoc reporting and analysis as requested by leadership.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of accounting experience; waste hauling or transportation industry experience required.
  • Strong proficiency in QuickBooks (Desktop and/or Online).
  • Hands-on experience with Navusoft billing or operations modules.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and standard accounting practices.
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, reporting).
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally in a remote environment.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable managing deadlines independently.
