Mechanical Assistant Project Manager

Overview
A leading mechanical contractor specializing in commercial and industrial projects is seeking a Mechanical Assistant Project Manager to support the successful execution of piping, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical system installations. This position offers a clear pathway to full Project Manager responsibility and is ideal for candidates who want to apply their technical background while learning the operational side of project delivery.


Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers in the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical construction projects

  • Review drawings, specifications, and P&IDs to understand scope and identify coordination requirements

  • Support quantity takeoffs, pricing, procurement, and change order development

  • Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, equipment logs, and project documentation

  • Coordinate with field supervisors, subcontractors, and vendors to maintain project schedule and workflow

  • Monitor cost, productivity, and material status; assist with forecasting and reporting

  • Participate in site walks, progress reviews, start-up activities, and commissioning support

  • Contribute to project closeout, turnover documentation, and client-facing deliverables


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred

  • 1–4 years of experience in mechanical construction (HVAC, plumbing, piping, industrial systems, or similar)

  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, piping isometrics, and P&IDs

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities

  • Solid communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with field personnel, engineers, vendors, and clients

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with project management or construction software is a plus

  • Interest in long-term growth into a Project Manager role
