Job Title: Metal Fabrication Estimator
Specializing in Decorative Metals, Railings & Custom Architectural Metalwork Industry: Commercial Interior Construction
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Metal Fabrication Estimator to join our commercial interior contracting team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for decorative metal, architectural railings, and custom fabricated metalwork projects. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of fabrication processes, material costs, and commercial construction environments.
This position plays a critical role in supporting preconstruction efforts and ensuring profitable project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, and bid documents for commercial interior projects
- Perform quantity takeoffs for decorative metals, ornamental railings, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, and custom metal assemblies
- Develop detailed cost estimates including materials, labor, equipment, finishes, and subcontracted services
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, and fabrication teams to clarify scope
- Identify value engineering opportunities while maintaining design intent
- Prepare bid proposals and scope letters
- Maintain estimating databases and historical cost records
- Participate in bid review meetings and handoffs to project management
Qualifications
- 3+ years of estimating experience in metal fabrication, architectural metals, or commercial construction
- Strong understanding of fabrication methods (welding, forming, machining, finishing)
- Experience estimating decorative metals, ornamental railings, custom millwork metal, and specialty architectural components
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings
- Proficiency in estimating software and Excel
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills
- Excellent communication and coordination abilities
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with commercial interior contractors or general contractors
- Knowledge of finishes such as powder coating, patina, brushed finishes, and specialty coatings
- Familiarity with field measuring and installation methods
- Engineering or construction management background
