Yard Maintenance Manager – Cattle Feedlot

Position Overview:

The Yard Maintenance Manager will lead and supervise a team responsible for all aspects of feedlot maintenance and equipment operation. This role is essential in ensuring the continuous upkeep of pens, fencing, roads, shop, water systems, and manure management infrastructure. You will collaborate with other department managers, coordinate daily and long-term maintenance projects, and be responsible for scheduling, inventory control, budget tracking, and equipment repairs.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and lead a team of maintenance and equipment operators.

  • Oversee maintenance of cattle pens, fencing, road grading, and feedlot facilities.

  • Manage shop operations, parts inventory, and preventative maintenance schedules.

  • Maintain and repair water systems, including pond/lagoons, and water tanks.

  • Plan and execute short and long-term infrastructure and equipment projects.

  • Coordinate with feedlot management to align maintenance activities with operational goals.

  • Operate and repair heavy agricultural and construction machinery.

  • Perform or supervise welding and fabrication tasks as needed.

  • Track budgets, approve parts orders, and manage vendor relationships.

  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluation, and termination of maintenance staff.

  • Maintain compliance with safety protocols and operational standards.


Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in feedlot or agricultural operations (5+ years preferred).

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

  • Hands-on experience with heavy machinery operation, repair, and maintenance.

  • Proficiency in welding, fabrication, and general mechanical troubleshooting.

  • Familiarity with water systems (ponds, lagoons, tanks, pivots) and manure removal.

  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.

  • Strong organizational skills with experience in scheduling, inventory, and budgeting.

  • Comfortable working in outdoor and sometimes challenging weather conditions.

  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not mandatory.
