Project Accountant

A growing and well-established General Contractor is seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant to join its team. This individual will play a key role in supporting project financial operations by managing billing, accounts payable, project documentation, and subcontractor compliance. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment while collaborating closely with Project Managers, vendors, subcontractors, and the accounting team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit progress billings and owner invoices in accordance with contract requirements
  • Process AIA billings and maintain supporting documentation
  • Track accounts receivable activity and assist with collection efforts as needed
  • Ensure invoices and billings are completed accurately and submitted within required deadlines
  • Review and process subcontractor and vendor invoices for payment
  • Verify cost coding and ensure proper approvals are obtained
  • Maintain subcontractor compliance records, including Certificates of Insurance, W-9s, and lien waivers
  • Respond to vendor and subcontractor inquiries regarding payments and account status
  • Work closely with Project Managers and accounting personnel to support project success
  • Communicate professionally with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal team members
  • Assist with process improvements and help maintain consistency across project accounting functions
  • Provide timely support for project-related financial inquiries

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in project accounting, construction accounting, or a related accounting role
  • Knowledge of construction billing processes, including AIA billing preferred
  • Understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, lien waivers, and subcontractor compliance documentation
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Proficiency in accounting and construction management software
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
