Estimator – Asphalt & Civil Construction

Location: Jackson MS

One of the South's leading heavy civil and paving contractor is seeking an experienced Estimator to support continued growth across Mississippi. This company provides asphalt production, asphalt and concrete paving, and related civil construction services for complex public and private projects.

The Estimator will be responsible for developing accurate, competitive estimates while working closely with operations, project management, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients. This position is ideal for someone who understands paving and civil construction and can evaluate the full scope of a project—not simply complete quantity takeoffs.

Responsibilities

  • Review plans, specifications, bid documents, contracts, and project requirements
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for asphalt paving, concrete paving, grading, excavation, base work, drainage, and related scopes
  • Develop labor, equipment, material, trucking, subcontractor, and production cost estimates
  • Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals
  • Identify project risks, scope gaps, constructability concerns, and value-engineering opportunities
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and project site visits
  • Prepare bid summaries, proposals, schedules, and supporting documentation
  • Work with operations teams to develop project approach, phasing, equipment plans, and production assumptions
  • Maintain historical cost data and monitor market pricing
  • Support project handoff from estimating to operations following award
  • Build and maintain relationships with owners, agencies, subcontractors, and material suppliers

Qualifications

  • Experience estimating asphalt paving, heavy civil, roadway, sitework, or concrete construction
  • Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, production rates, materials, labor, and equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Experience with public-sector, DOT, municipal, industrial, or large private-site projects is preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines
  • Proficiency with estimating, takeoff, scheduling, and Microsoft Office software
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required with relevant industry experience

What the Company Offers

  • Established contractor with a strong presence in the Mississippi market
  • Diverse portfolio of public and private paving projects
  • Opportunity to work closely with experienced estimating and operations leadership
  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • Long-term growth opportunity with a stable organization
  • Safety-focused, performance-driven work environment

All inquiries will be handled confidentially.
