The MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all on-site MEP construction activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents and quality standards. This role works closely with the Project Manager, General Superintendent, subcontractors, engineers, and inspectors.
Key Responsibilities 1. Project Oversight & Coordination
Manage daily on-site MEP activities (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, low-voltage systems).
Coordinate MEP subcontractors to ensure proper sequencing and integration with structural and architectural work.
Review construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings for accuracy and constructability.
Conduct regular coordination meetings with subcontractors and trades.
2. Schedule Management
Develop and maintain short-term and long-term MEP schedules.
Ensure MEP work aligns with the overall project master schedule.
Identify and resolve schedule conflicts or delays proactively.
Monitor material procurement and delivery timelines.
3. Quality Control
Ensure installations comply with project specifications, codes, and industry standards.
Perform routine inspections and quality checks.
Coordinate testing, commissioning, and system startups.
Manage punch lists and ensure timely close-out of deficiencies.
4. Safety Compliance
Enforce site safety policies and OSHA regulations.
Conduct safety meetings and toolbox talks with MEP trades.
Ensure proper PPE usage and safe work practices.
Investigate and report incidents as required.
5. Budget & Cost Control
Monitor labor productivity and subcontractor performance.
Review and approve timecards and daily reports.
Assist in tracking change orders and cost impacts related to MEP scope.
6. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain daily field reports.
Document RFIs, submittals, inspections, and progress photos.
Support project close-out documentation including as-builts and O&M manuals.
Qualifications Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
5–10+ years of MEP construction experience.
Previous supervisory or superintendent experience required.
Experience on commercial with Data Center experince a must
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, and fire protection.
Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
Familiarity with local building codes and inspection requirements.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in construction management software (Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, etc.).
Work Environment
Primarily on active construction sites.
Requires standing, walking, climbing ladders, and working in various weather conditions.
May require extended hours to meet project deadlines.
Reporting Structure
Reports to: Project Manager / General Superintendent
Supervises: MEP subcontractors and field staff
