Job Title: Operations Manager – Truss Manufacturing Plant
Position Summary:
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a roof and floor truss manufacturing facility. This role ensures efficient planning, scheduling, production, and distribution of high-quality trusses designed using MiTek software. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, and experience managing supply chain functions including purchasing and inventory control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations Oversight
- Manage all plant operations, including production, quality control, safety, and maintenance
- Ensure efficient workflow from design to final delivery
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase productivity and reduce waste
- Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and manage production schedules based on customer demand and project timelines
- Coordinate closely with design teams using MiTek software to ensure accurate and timely production
- Balance plant capacity, labor, and equipment utilization
- Purchasing & Inventory Management
- Oversee procurement of lumber, plates, and other materials
- Maintain optimal inventory levels to support production while minimizing carrying costs
- Establish and manage vendor relationships
- Production Management
- Supervise production teams to meet output, quality, and safety targets
- Monitor KPIs such as throughput, efficiency, and on-time completion
- Ensure compliance with engineering specifications and building codes
- Distribution & Logistics
- Coordinate delivery schedules and transportation logistics
- Ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment
- Work with dispatch and drivers to optimize routes and delivery efficiency
- Team Leadership
- Lead, train, and develop plant personnel, including supervisors and production staff
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
- Conduct performance evaluations and workforce planning
- Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all safety policies and OSHA regulations
- Promote a safe working environment and reduce workplace incidents
- Ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing operations, preferably in truss or building materials industry
- Hands-on experience with MiTek truss design software (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of production planning, scheduling, and inventory control
- Experience in purchasing and supply chain management
- Proven leadership and team management skills
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication abilities
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of roof and floor truss design and manufacturing processes
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Work Environment:
- Primarily based in a manufacturing plant setting
- Requires regular interaction with production floor personnel
- May involve extended hours to meet production deadlines
