Insurance Coverage Attorney – Senior Associate
Location: Chicago, IL (hybrid schedule possible)
A boutique litigation law firm in Chicago is seeking a skilled Insurance Coverage Attorney with a minimum of 6 years of experience to join its growing team. This role involves handling complex coverage matters across various policy lines and offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic, collaborative environment focused on high-quality client service.
Responsibilities
- Handle complex insurance coverage matters from analysis to resolution.
- Draft coverage opinions, reservation-of-rights letters, and duty-to-defend or indemnify evaluations.
- Litigate declaratory judgment actions in both state and federal courts, including at the appellate level.
- Advise clients on risk transfer, policy interpretation, and potential extracontractual exposure.
- Draft and negotiate policy language across multiple lines (CGL, property, E&O, cyber, umbrella/excess, D&O, etc.).
- Collaborate with litigation teams on underlying matters to align coverage strategy.
- Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to knowledge sharing across the team.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in Illinois; federal court admission preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience focused on insurance coverage litigation and counseling.
- Strong writing, research, and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with a wide range of commercial insurance products.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex cases independently.
- Effective communication skills and client-facing experience.
