Senior Associate Attorney – Insurance Coverage & Commercial Litigation (Transportation & Logistics Focus)

A well-established boutique law firm in Chicago with a national and international client base seeks an experienced Senior Associate Attorney to join its insurance coverage and commercial litigation practice. The ideal candidate will have 4–7 years of relevant experience and an interest or background in the transportation, logistics, and/or marine sectors.

About the Role

The successful candidate will handle complex insurance coverage and commercial litigation matters, including the defense of transportation and logistics companies in cargo loss and damage, breach of contract, and personal injury litigation. The role also involves advising insurers on coverage issues related to ocean and inland marine cargo risks, as well as providing transactional and risk management advice to clients in the transportation industry.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of insurance coverage and commercial litigation cases from inception through resolution or trial.
  • Draft and argue motions, conduct depositions, and appear in court and at mediations.
  • Advise insurers and insureds on policy interpretation, risk allocation, and coverage disputes.
  • Provide transactional and regulatory guidance to transportation and logistics companies.
  • Collaborate closely with partners and clients to develop effective litigation and resolution strategies.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Illinois Bar (or eligibility for admission on motion).
  • 4–7 years of experience in insurance coverage and/or commercial litigation.
  • Experience or familiarity with transportation, logistics, or marine law strongly preferred.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
