Defense Insurance Coverage Litigation Attorney

Location: Irvine, CA (in-office) Experience: 3–12 years Base Salary: $160,000–$200,000 (DOE)

We are partnered with a well-established insurance coverage defense firm in Irvine, California, seeking a Defense Insurance Coverage Litigation Attorney with 3–12 years of experience to join its core coverage practice.

This position is intended for an attorney who already knows coverage law, is comfortable advising insurer clients, and can independently manage sophisticated coverage and bad faith matters. The firm offers real responsibility, direct client access, and a streamlined structure that rewards strong judgment and ownership of files.

Practice Emphasis

  • Insurance coverage analysis and litigation
  • Defense of coverage and bad faith claims
  • Declaratory relief actions
  • Complex civil litigation arising from coverage disputes

Role Responsibilities

  • Analyze insurance policies and advise carriers on coverage positions and exposure
  • Draft reservation of rights letters, declinations, and formal coverage opinions
  • Defend insurers in coverage and bad faith litigation through resolution
  • Manage all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, and depositions
  • Argue motions and appear at hearings, mediations, and arbitrations
  • Develop litigation strategy in coordination with insurer clients
  • Serve as primary point of contact on assigned matters

Candidate Profile

  • 3–12 years of insurance coverage and defense litigation experience
  • Demonstrated experience representing insurers in coverage and bad faith matters
  • Strong policy interpretation and legal writing skills
  • Trial, arbitration, or appellate experience is a plus
  • Ability to manage cases independently with minimal supervision
  • Professional, client-facing demeanor and sound litigation judgment

Licensure

  • Active California Bar admission (required)
