Controller – Residential Construction & Development

OverviewA well-established residential construction and development company in the Chicagoland area is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead and manage their growing finance team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a dynamic, project-driven environment and wants exposure to both corporate and project-level financial operations.
Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting functions, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger
Lead month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
Monitor job costing and track project financials
Prepare budgets, forecasts, and support audit processes
Ensure compliance with company policies and GAAP standards
Collaborate with project managers and operations teams to resolve financial issues
Mentor and manage accounting staff, driving efficiency and accuracy
Qualifications
5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, development, or real estate
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred
Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, Viewpoint, Timberline, or similar)
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Knowledge of GAAP and construction accounting best practices
