Job Description

The Field Engineer supports on-site construction activities for commercial projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with plans and specifications. This role works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and design teams to coordinate daily field operations and resolve technical issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Superintendent and Project Manager with daily field operations.

  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.

  • Coordinate subcontractor activities and monitor work for quality and compliance.

  • Conduct field layout and verify elevations, dimensions, and alignments.

  • Track project progress and report on schedule adherence.

  • Maintain daily logs, site reports, and documentation.

  • Assist with RFI (Request for Information) preparation and tracking.

  • Support procurement and material delivery coordination.

  • Monitor safety compliance and ensure adherence to OSHA standards.

  • Participate in project meetings and provide field updates.

  • Perform quality control inspections and punch list coordination.

  • Assist in cost tracking and change order documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.

  • 1–3 years of experience in commercial construction (internships acceptable).

  • Strong understanding of construction processes and sequencing.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

  • Proficiency in construction management software (Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, etc.).

  • Working knowledge of building codes and safety regulations.

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with commercial projects such as office buildings, retail centers, healthcare facilities, or mixed-use developments.

  • Basic surveying/layout experience.

  • OSHA 30 certification.

  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.

Work Environment

  • Primarily on active construction sites.

  • May require early mornings, extended hours, or occasional weekends.

  • Physically active role requiring walking, climbing, and lifting.
