Asphalt Quality Control Manager (Plant/Production)

Location: Denver, CO

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Asphalt Quality Control Manager to oversee all quality-related activities at the asphalt plant. This role is responsible for ensuring mix designs, production processes, and materials meet all applicable specifications and standards, with a focus on plant operations—not field placement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily quality control operations for asphalt plant production
  • Ensure all asphalt mixes meet DOT and project specifications
  • Manage and maintain mix designs, including adjustments based on materials and production variables
  • Perform and/or supervise lab testing of aggregates, asphalt binder, and finished mix (gradation, asphalt content, volumetrics, etc.)
  • Monitor plant production processes to ensure consistency and quality output
  • Calibrate and maintain plant equipment related to quality control (scales, feeders, thermometers, etc.)
  • Track and document test results, production data, and compliance reports
  • Work closely with plant operators, production teams, and suppliers to resolve quality issues
  • Coordinate with DOT inspectors and ensure plant certifications and approvals are maintained
  • Identify opportunities to improve mix performance, plant efficiency, and material usage

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in asphalt quality control, with a strong focus on plant/production operations
  • In-depth knowledge of asphalt mix design, materials, and plant processes
  • Experience with DOT specifications and testing procedures
  • Strong understanding of lab testing methods (Superpave, volumetrics, aggregate testing, etc.)
  • Ability to troubleshoot mix and production issues in real time
  • Proficient in QC documentation, reporting, and plant systems
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
  • Relevant certifications (NICET, ACI, or state DOT certifications) preferred
