Position Overview: A highly respected regional civil litigation firm is seeking a skilled and motivated Associate Attorney to join its expanding Insurance Defense practice group in Boise. This is a premier, fully in-office opportunity for an attorney with four or more years of strong litigation experience who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced legal environment.
The ideal candidate will possess a sophisticated understanding of insurance defense frameworks, first- and third-party claims, and a proven track record handling complex civil litigation. You will take immediate ownership of an active caseload, defending insured individuals, corporations, and major insurance carriers from inception through resolution.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage an active insurance defense caseload involving general liability, casualty, commercial trucking, construction defect, and premises liability claims within Idaho state and federal courts.
Conduct comprehensive legal research, analyze evidence, and evaluate liability and damages to develop aggressive, strategic defense plans.
Draft substantive legal pleadings, specialized motions to dismiss, summary judgment motions, and appellate briefs.
Lead detailed discovery processes, including drafting interrogatories, requests for production, and managing electronic discovery.
Prepare for, take, and defend critical depositions of plaintiffs, fact witnesses, and designated expert witnesses.
Represent clients confidently in court appearances, oral arguments, status conferences, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) proceedings throughout the Treasure Valley region.
Maintain consistent, clear, and professional communication with insurance claims adjusters and risk managers, providing timely evaluation reports and budget updates in accordance with strict carrier guidelines.
Collaborate with trial teams to formulate trial strategy, prepare exhibits, draft motions in limine, and actively participate in first-chair or second-chair trial litigation.
Qualifications & Experience:
Experience: 4+ years of civil litigation experience, with a heavy and demonstrable emphasis on insurance defense.
Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school with strong academic credentials.
Licensure: Active, good-standing admission to the Idaho State Bar (or immediate eligibility to waive in).
Skills: Thorough familiarity with insurance policies, indemnity frameworks, and standard tripartite relationship dynamics.
Litigation Acumen: Exceptional deposition, writing, and oral advocacy skills, with a demonstrated ability to independently manage litigation files.
Work Environment: Ability to work full-time in the firm’s Boise office location, contributing to a vibrant, hands-on team dynamic and mentorship structure.
