The Opportunity

A growing mid-market business law firm is seeking an experienced Corporate / Commercial Solicitor to join its Calgary office.

This opportunity is ideal for an entrepreneurial lawyer with a partial portable book of business who is looking to leverage an expanding national and international platform while maintaining the collaborative culture and accessibility of a mid-sized firm.

The firm has a strong presence across Canada and continues to expand its international relationships, creating opportunities for cross-border collaboration and client referrals. The Calgary office offers a collaborative environment where lawyers work closely together while benefiting from the resources of a broader national platform.

Practice Focus

The successful candidate will advise clients on a broad range of solicitor-side matters, including:

  • Corporate and commercial transactions
  • Banking and finance
  • Commercial real estate
  • Franchise law
  • Tax-related transactions and corporate reorganizations
  • General business advisory services

The firm has an existing pipeline of work in these areas; however, this role is best suited for a lawyer who has begun developing a client base and is looking for a platform to continue growing their practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and expand an existing corporate and commercial practice
  • Advise entrepreneurs, private companies, lenders, investors, and developers
  • Draft and negotiate commercial agreements and transactional documents
  • Lead financing, acquisition, reorganization, and commercial real estate transactions
  • Build long-term client relationships through exceptional client service
  • Collaborate with lawyers across Canada and internationally on cross-border matters
  • Participate in business development and contribute to the continued growth of the Calgary office

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of solicitor-side experience
  • Strong background in corporate and commercial law
  • Experience in banking, finance, commercial real estate, franchising, and/or tax-related matters
  • Partial portable book of business preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage sophisticated transactions
  • Strong business development and client relationship skills
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication abilities
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta

Compensation

Multiple compensation pathways are available, including Associate, Of Counsel, Non-Equity Partner, and Equity Partner opportunities.
