Job Description

A well-established nursery operation is seeking an Assistant Grower to join their production team. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on nursery, horticulture, propagation, or plant production experience and enjoys working with a wide variety of container and field grown nursery material.

Location: New Jersey

Responsibilities:

• Assist with daily growing and production activities for container and field grown nursery stock
• Support propagation, transplanting, potting, spacing, pruning, watering, fertilization, and general crop maintenance
• Monitor crop health and identify issues related to pests, disease, fertility, irrigation, and overall plant quality
• Assist with IPM practices, including scouting, pest and disease identification, treatment follow through, and recordkeeping
• Work closely with the grower and production team to maintain crop quality and production timelines
• Help maintain growing areas, production blocks, irrigation systems, and nursery facilities
• Assist with crop movement, inventory organization, labeling, and plant readiness for orders
• Communicate crop concerns, labor needs, and production updates to leadership

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience in nursery production, horticulture, greenhouse production, propagation, or a related field
• Experience with container grown and/or field grown nursery material
• Knowledge of deciduous trees, shrubs, evergreens, perennials, and ornamental grasses highly preferred
• Familiarity with IPM, plant health, pest and disease scouting, and crop maintenance
• Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize plant quality issues
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Comfortable working in a hands-on production environment
• Ability to follow direction, communicate clearly, and work well with a team
• Pesticide applicator license is a plus, but not required
• Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills are a plus, but not required
