Position Overview

A respected California law firm is seeking a Complex Litigation Associate Attorney with 4+ years of experience to join its Oakland office. This is an excellent opportunity to work on sophisticated, high-stakes litigation involving business disputes, class actions, financial services, securities, consumer protection, employment, and other complex civil matters. The ideal candidate will have strong litigation experience, exceptional writing skills, and the ability to independently manage cases while collaborating with a highly accomplished litigation team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage complex litigation matters through all phases of litigation.
  • Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery requests and responses, and appellate briefs as needed.
  • Conduct legal research and develop case strategy.
  • Take and defend depositions and prepare witnesses for testimony.
  • Manage all aspects of written discovery, document review, and production.
  • Participate in mediations, arbitrations, settlement negotiations, and court appearances.
  • Prepare cases for trial, including expert coordination and trial strategy.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients while managing multiple active matters.
  • Collaborate with attorneys across practice groups on sophisticated litigation matters.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school preferred.
  • Active membership in the California State Bar and in good standing.
  • 4+ years of complex civil litigation experience.
  • Experience handling matters through all phases of litigation.
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Experience taking and defending depositions.
  • Trial preparation experience is preferred.
  • Ability to independently manage a litigation caseload while working collaboratively with a team.
  • Excellent organizational and client communication skills.
