CNC MACHINIST / PROGRAMMER – LEVEL 2

Join a Northern Utah manufacturing organization that invests in advanced machining technology and gives experienced programmers ownership of the full programming lifecycle. This company offers the opportunity to serve as a technical expert, influence machining strategy, and strengthen the capabilities of programming and shop-floor teams.

The CNC Machinist / Programmer – Level 2 will develop production-ready Mastercam programs for complex parts and assemblies.

This advanced professional will lead machining projects from concept through production while supporting quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Create, optimize, and troubleshoot Mastercam programs for moderately complex to highly complex parts and assemblies.

• Develop multi-axis toolpaths, high-efficiency machining strategies, and complex workholding solutions.

• Select and validate tooling, feeds, speeds, and cutting strategies based on material, geometry, tolerances, and machine capabilities.

• Lead setup validation, prove-outs, and first-article runs to confirm production readiness.

• Ensure programs meet engineering drawings, tight tolerances, GD&T requirements, and dimensional standards.

• Partner with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams regarding design intent, manufacturability, inspection methods, and process capability.

• Create and maintain setup sheets, tool lists, revision records, and clear process documentation.

• Perform CNC Machine Technician – Level 2 responsibilities when required, including production ownership, inspection, and documentation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Advanced Mastercam proficiency, including complex toolpath generation and post-processing.

• Strong CNC milling and/or turning experience, including multi-axis machining.

• In-depth knowledge of tooling, tool geometry, coatings, cutting applications, machine setups, workholding, and fixture validation.

• Strong understanding and practical application of GD&T.

• Proficiency with precision measurement equipment, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and indicators.

• Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and convert them into efficient machining processes.

• Strong independent troubleshooting, problem-solving, written communication, and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

3 to 7 or more years of CNC programming and/or machining experience.

• Experience with CAM simulation and verification software.

• Experience supporting lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.

Aerospace manufacturing or aerospace component machining experience is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Work will be performed in a combination of office and shop-floor environments.

• Frequent interaction with CNC machines, tooling, and setup activities will be required.

• Standing, walking, and occasional lifting consistent with shop activity may be required.

SPECIALIZED PRODUCTION MACHINING EXPERIENCE

• Proficiency with Matsuura, DMG Mori, Fanuc, and Wele CNC equipment is preferred, along with extensive experience operating horizontal 4-axis and 5-axis machining centers.

• We strongly prefer someone with a solid background in production machining, including the use of onboard probing systems, laser tool wear detection, and programming sister tools for automated tool management and uninterrupted production.
