Job Description

A growing medical manufacturing organization is seeking an Extrusion Manager to lead and develop a new extrusion department. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an experienced extrusion professional with a background in medical tubing, multi-lumen extrusion, process development, and team leadership.

The Extrusion Manager will be responsible for building the extrusion operation, leading technical and production activities, developing the extrusion team, and ensuring processes meet customer, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and operation of a new medical extrusion department.

  • Run extrusion equipment and provide hands-on technical support.

  • Hire, train, and develop extrusion technicians and material handling personnel.

  • Schedule extrusion production and ensure customer deadlines are met.

  • Troubleshoot extrusion equipment, processes, tooling, and material issues.

  • Develop and optimize extrusion processes to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity.

  • Support the development of extrusion tooling, including multi-lumen tooling and dies.

  • Assist with quoting and cost development for tooling, development, and production.

  • Lead extrusion-related projects from development through production.

  • Support equipment selection, installation, implementation, and improvements.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and suppliers.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives and identify opportunities for increased efficiency and reliability.

  • Establish department goals, budgets, procedures, and performance standards.

  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, quality, operations, materials, and project management teams.

  • Ensure extrusion processes comply with applicable quality and regulatory requirements, including ISO 13485.

  • Participate in corrective action, process improvement, and quality initiatives.

  • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing development for department personnel.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in extrusion operations.

  • Strong experience with medical tubing extrusion, preferably including multi-lumen tubing.

  • Experience working within an ISO 13485 medical device manufacturing environment.

  • Strong knowledge of plastic extrusion processes, tooling, and troubleshooting.

  • Project management experience.

  • Hands-on experience setting up, operating, and optimizing extrusion equipment.

  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude.

  • Experience developing or improving extrusion processes and equipment.

  • Experience with SolidWorks or other engineering/design software is a plus.

  • Knowledge of OSHA and manufacturing safety practices is preferred.

  • Spanish/English bilingual skills are a plus.

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience will be considered.The ideal candidate is a hands-on extrusion professional and leader who can help build an extrusion operation from the ground up. This person should be comfortable troubleshooting equipment and processes, working with extrusion tooling, developing employees, managing projects, and collaborating across engineering, quality, operations, and customer-facing teams.
