Traveling Quality Inspector – Mechanical Construction

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Traveling Quality Inspector to support mechanical construction projects throughout the United States. This position is responsible for ensuring fabrication and field installations meet project specifications, applicable codes, quality standards, and client requirements.

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of quality inspection or mechanical construction experience, strong knowledge of welding and mechanical systems, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. Experience with HVAC, piping, plumbing, sheet metal, and industrial mechanical systems is highly valued.

Projects may include data centers, healthcare, laboratories, pharmaceutical, automotive, industrial, education, and other large-scale facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review project drawings, specifications, and quality requirements for compliance with contract documents.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain QA/QC plans, inspection procedures, and project documentation.

  • Perform field and fabrication inspections involving welds, bolted connections, pressure testing, mechanical installations, and related systems.

  • Coordinate third-party testing and inspection activities and ensure deficiencies are properly documented and corrected.

  • Lead or participate in pre-installation meetings, quality meetings, and subcontractor coordination.

  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, certifications, corrective actions, and installer/vendor qualifications.

  • Coordinate testing and inspection schedules with project teams to prevent construction delays.

  • Support project closeout by ensuring required quality documentation and final reporting are complete.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant quality inspection, QA/QC, mechanical construction, or fabrication experience.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including piping, HVAC, plumbing, and/or sheet metal.

  • Experience with welding, brazing, fusing, testing, and examination procedures.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, codes, and test results.

  • Understanding of quality-control processes and construction inspection requirements.

  • CWI, VT Level II, API, or similar welding/inspection certification preferred.

  • Must be comfortable working in active construction and fabrication environments.

Travel & Schedule

  • This is a traveling position with assignments based on project needs.

  • Must be willing to remain onsite for the duration of assigned projects.

  • Typical schedule may include six 10-hour shifts per week.

  • Opportunity to travel home approximately every 3–4 weeks for 2–3 days.

  • Must be able to lift 50+ pounds, climb ladders, walk active jobsites, and perform inspections in field environments.
