Job Description

Mechanical Design Engineer | Mobile Equipment & Product Development

About the Opportunity

A growing equipment manufacturer is adding a Mechanical Design Engineers to its engineering team.

This is an opportunity for an engineer who wants to do much more than CAD work. You’ll help design and develop large mobile equipment, work through hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems, solve manufacturing and field problems, and see your designs move from concept to finished equipment.

The company is a successful, growing manufacturer where you’ll benefit from strong mentorship from both your direct supervisor and the CEO. Engineers work closely with manufacturing, suppliers and customers, giving you the opportunity to see your designs move from concept through production and understand their impact in the field.

What Makes This Role Different

The company is looking for an engineer with an engineering mind, not simply someone who can operate SolidWorks.

You should be naturally curious about how equipment works. When you walk around a machine, you notice things. You ask questions. You think about how the mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems interact and where the design could be improved.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Design and develop mobile equipment and new products
  • Work with mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Take ideas from concept and calculations through design, testing and manufacturing
  • Create complete engineering drawings and build documentation
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing and field issues
  • Work directly with customers to understand applications and solve problems
  • Work with suppliers on components including motors, hydraulics and other engineered systems
  • Collaborate directly with the people building the equipment
  • Participate in product management, sourcing and purchasing
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing products and develop new ones

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • Strong mechanical design capabilities
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software
  • Experience with mobile, agricultural, heavy or industrial equipment
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic systems
  • Understanding of electrical systems used in mobile or industrial equipment
  • Ability to perform statics and machine-design calculations
  • Understanding of fluid and thermal dynamics
  • Experience developing complete manufacturing/build drawings
  • Understanding of product development from concept through testing and manufacturing
  • Ability to communicate ideas and work effectively with manufacturing, suppliers and customers
  • Curiosity and a desire to continually improve products and designs

An Opportunity to Grow Beyond Engineering

Because this is a smaller organization, engineers aren't confined to one narrow function. You'll gain exposure to customers, manufacturing, sourcing, purchasing, product development and other parts of the business.

You'll also have the opportunity to work directly with and learn from the company's CEO, an experienced business leader who is actively involved in the organization.

For an engineer who wants to continue developing technically while gaining broader business and product-development experience, this offers considerably more exposure than a narrowly defined engineering position.

This is an on-site position with occasional travel.

Please submit a resume for consideration. Only those qualified applicants that provide a resume will be contacted.
