Lead CNC VTL Machinist / Programmer — 2nd Shift
Location: Cook County, IL | On-site
Pay: Up to $34/hour, based on experience

An established metal manufacturer is seeking a 2nd Shift Lead CNC VTL Machinist / Programmer with experience machining large components in a high-mix, low-volume environment.

This is a hands-on opportunity for a machinist who can take a part from blueprint through programming, setup, and machining while providing leadership on the shop floor.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate CNC vertical turning lathes (VTLs) to produce large metal components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, dimensions, and machining requirements.
  • Develop and modify CNC programs, making adjustments during production as needed.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and verify finished parts meet specifications.
  • Provide hands-on guidance to other machinists and help keep second-shift work moving.
  • Maintain safe work practices and consistent quality.

Qualifications

  • CNC vertical turning lathe experience, including independent programming and setup.
  • Background machining large components in high-mix, low-volume metal manufacturing.
  • Ability to work from a blueprint through a completed part.
  • Strong troubleshooting, measurement, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to guide other machinists while remaining hands-on.
  • Availability for second shift and substantial overtime.
  • Heavy gearing experience is a plus.
