An established underground utility and excavation contractor is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead field operations on infrastructure projects throughout northern Indiana.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on leader to oversee crews, coordinate daily production, and deliver projects that support local communities. Work includes sewer systems, water mains, treatment facilities, and excavation for municipal, commercial, and institutional clients.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily construction activities from mobilization through project completion.

  • Lead foremen, equipment operators, and field crews.

  • Plan and coordinate labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and deliveries.

  • Manage underground utility installation, excavation, trenching, backfill, and compaction activities.

  • Review plans, specifications, and project schedules to organize work and meet production goals.

  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and owners.

  • Monitor workmanship, resolve field issues, and maintain quality standards.

  • Enforce jobsite safety procedures and safe excavation practices.

  • Maintain daily reports and communicate project progress, delays, and resource needs.

Qualifications

  • Previous Superintendent or Foreman experience in underground utilities, excavation, or heavy civil construction.

  • Strong knowledge of sewer and water main installation.

  • Experience supervising crews and coordinating heavy equipment.

  • Ability to read construction plans, specifications, elevations, and utility layouts.

  • Understanding of trench protection, excavation safety, and jobsite safety requirements.

  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage daily priorities and hold crews accountable for safety, quality, and production.

  • Treatment facility construction experience is a plus.
