Controller – Commercial Construction

Location: Chicago area

A commercial general contractor in the Chicago area is seeking a Controller with a clear path toward the CFO role over the next few years. Construction accounting experience and readiness for broader financial leadership are essential.

What You'll Do

• Lead the accounting team and own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close
• Manage job cost accounting, WIP schedules, and revenue recognition
• Prepare clear financial reports and forecasts for leadership
• Oversee cash flow, billing, AP/AR, and payroll processes
• Work with auditors, banks, and bonding and insurance partners
• Partner with ownership on strategy as you grow toward the CFO role

What You Bring

• Accounting experience with a general contractor (construction accounting is a must)
• A strong understanding of job costing, WIP, and percentage-of-completion
• Experience leading or mentoring an accounting team
• A CPA is a plus, but not required
• A big-picture mindset and the drive to become a CFO
