Construction Estimator / Senior Estimator

Position Overview
An established commercial general contractor is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator or Senior Estimator to join its team in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator with a strong background in ground-up commercial construction who can independently manage projects from start to finish. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience preparing detailed estimates, reviewing construction documents, coordinating subcontractor bids, and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
We are looking for someone with well-rounded commercial construction estimating experience, not exclusively residential or trade-specific estimating experience.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare conceptual, negotiated, and competitive bid estimates across multiple commercial construction project types.
Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine complete project scope.
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and pricing for labor, materials, and general conditions.
Solicit, review, evaluate, and level subcontractor and vendor bids.
Maintain bid schedules and ensure proper coverage across all trades.
Attend pre-bid meetings and occasionally visit job sites to evaluate project conditions.
Collaborate with Project Managers to support preconstruction and project planning.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
Ensure estimates follow company bidding procedures and quality standards.
Independently manage multiple estimates simultaneously, typically handling 2–3 or more projects at a time.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 5+ years of estimating experience in ground-up commercial construction.
Demonstrated experience managing the estimating process from project start to finish.
Strong proficiency with Bluebeam and Microsoft Excel, including formulas, templates, and data organization.
Ability to read, interpret, and analyze construction drawings across multiple trades.
Proven ability to independently prepare detailed and accurate construction estimates.
Strong understanding of commercial construction methods, materials, labor costs, and subcontractor pricing.
Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with healthcare, public works, or multifamily construction projects.
Familiarity with Procore or similar construction management software.
Experience with conceptual, negotiated, and competitive bidding.

We are looking for a well-rounded commercial construction estimator who understands the entire construction process and can confidently take ownership of estimates from beginning to end.
Candidates with exclusively residential estimating experience or estimating experience limited to a single trade will not be considered.
