Mechanical Design Engineer

Join an engineering team that develops highly specialized precision machinery rather than repetitive, off-the-shelf products. This opportunity also provides hands-on involvement from

initial design through fabrication and final machine construction, allowing the Mechanical Design Engineer to see concepts become fully operational equipment.

Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities

• Mechanical components, tooling, fixtures, and automation subsystems will be designed for custom machinery.
• Bearings, drive belts, ball screws, motor requirements, structural weldments, and other mechanical systems will be analyzed for proper performance.
• Detailed component drawings, assembly drawings, floor plans, and installation diagrams will be produced using AutoCAD.
• Hydraulic and pneumatic systems will be developed, and corresponding schematics will be created.
• Purchased components will be evaluated and specified based on machine requirements.
• Bills of materials will be prepared for assemblies and subassemblies.
• Customer requirements will be clarified through direct technical communication.
• Supplier information regarding product developments and market trends will be reviewed.
• Drawing revisions and design improvements will be incorporated in coordination with fabrication, machining, and assembly personnel.
• Confidential company and customer information will be protected.

Mechanical Design Engineer Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline will be required.
• 2 to 5 years of industrial machinery or manufacturing-equipment design experience will be preferred.
• Applied mathematics and mechanical-analysis capabilities will be demonstrated.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills will be maintained.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and computer-based drafting tools will be required.

Mechanical Design Engineer Work Requirements

• Regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stair climbing, reaching, handling, speaking, and hearing will be required.
• The ability to lift and move the weight necessary to perform assigned job duties safely will be expected.
• Work will primarily be performed indoors, with occasional exposure to outdoor conditions.
• Infrequent travel may be required.
• All established PPE and workplace safety requirements will be followed.
