Controls Manager

Location: Riverview, Florida

 

Position Overview

A growing industrial equipment manufacturer is seeking an experienced Controls Manager to lead the controls engineering team and oversee the design, programming, testing, and implementation of automated control systems.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing engineers while providing technical support throughout project development, testing, startup, and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Controls Engineering team.

  • Oversee PLC programming, HMI development, electrical controls design, and system integration.

  • Provide technical guidance on PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, instrumentation, motion control, and industrial networks.

  • Review electrical schematics, controls designs, programming, and project documentation.

  • Work with Project Management, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, customers, vendors, and contractors.

  • Troubleshoot complex electrical, automation, and controls issues.

  • Support FAT, installation, startup, and commissioning activities.

  • Assist with controls estimating, project scope, scheduling, and technical requirements.

  • Establish and maintain controls engineering standards and best practices.

  • Identify opportunities to improve automation, system reliability, and engineering processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

  • 7+ years of controls/automation engineering experience.

  • Previous leadership or management experience.

  • Strong PLC programming experience, preferably Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation and/or Siemens.

  • Experience with HMI systems, VFDs, instrumentation, motion control, and industrial networks.

  • Strong understanding of electrical controls and automation systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.

  • Experience troubleshooting and commissioning industrial equipment.

  • Strong communication, project management, and leadership skills.
