Deputy Chief Operations Officer (DCOO)
Second-in-command to the COO | Execution-Focused Operational Leader
Core Purpose
The Deputy COO ensures the bank’s day-to-day operations run smoothly while executing the strategic vision set by the CEO and COO. This role bridges strategy and execution — turning high-level plans into measurable operational performance.
Where This Role Sits
- Reports to: Chief Operations Officer
- Oversees: Operations, Deposit Ops, Loan Ops, IT (sometimes), Retail Ops, Vendor Management, Facilities, and Process Improvement
- Often supervises department heads directly
- Acts as COO in their absence
Job Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Oversees daily operational workflow across branches and back-office functions
- Improves efficiency in loan processing, deposit operations, treasury services, and customer service functions
- Drives consistency across multiple markets (Baton Rouge, NOLA, Jackson, etc.)
Process & Risk Management
- Identifies bottlenecks and improves internal controls
- Partners with Compliance, Risk, and BSA to ensure operational integrity
- Prepares departments for audits and regulatory exams
Technology & Systems Oversight
- Works closely with core systems, LOS platforms, and digital banking initiatives
- Helps implement operational tech upgrades
- Manages vendor relationships and contract negotiations
Team Development
- Coaches operational leaders
- Implements performance metrics
- Builds scalable infrastructure for growth
Strategic Execution
- Translates strategic growth goals (asset growth, branch expansion, market entry) into operational readiness
- Ensures staffing, systems, and policies can support expansion
Ideal Background
- 10+ years in banking operations
- Experience with nCino and CECL Software preferred
- Experience in larger community or regional bank settings
- Strong understanding of loan operations, deposit ops, and treasury services
- Regulatory exam exposure
- Experience with SOX Controls
- Process improvement or Lean/Six Sigma experience is a plus
