A CDL B Waste Truck Driver is responsible for safely operating waste collection vehicles to collect and transport residential, commercial, construction, or recycling materials while following DOT, company, and local safety regulations. This role requires strong driving skills, customer service, and the ability to work in varying weather and traffic conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate front-load, rear-load, side-load, roll-off, or recycling trucks
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Follow assigned routes and schedules efficiently
- Collect and transport waste, recyclables, or containers to disposal facilities
- Operate hydraulic lifting and compactor systems
- Maintain DOT logs, route sheets, and vehicle inspection reports
- Communicate with dispatch, customers, and supervisors professionally
- Follow all company safety procedures and traffic laws
- Clean spills and maintain equipment cleanliness when necessary
- Report mechanical issues, accidents, or unsafe conditions immediately
Qualifications
- Valid Class B CDL required
- Air Brake endorsement preferred or required by employer
- Clean driving record
- Ability to pass DOT physical and drug screening
- Ability to lift up to 50–75 lbs depending on route type
- Strong attendance and reliability
- Waste industry or heavy equipment experience preferred but not always required
