Estimator – Structural Steel Job

Can you look at a set of steel drawings, understand the scope, catch the details others miss, and turn it into an accurate, competitive estimate?

An established structural steel manufacturer is looking for an Estimator to prepare estimates and manage contract changes for industrial and bridge projects.

You’ll work with complex bid packages, design revisions, suppliers, customers, and multiple estimates at the same time.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare accurate structural steel fabrication and supply estimates.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Coordinate sub-supplier purchase orders and contracts, including scope, pricing, and schedules.
  • Track design changes and revisions throughout the project.
  • Develop pricing and proposals for change requests.
  • Work with suppliers and customers to clarify scope and resolve discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with the estimating team on bids before submission.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in structural steel estimating, steel fabrication, or construction estimating.
  • Ability to read structural steel drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Knowledge of detailing, erection fit-up, and heavy fabrication.
  • Understanding of construction materials and the steel supply chain.
  • Experience managing multiple estimates and deadlines.
  • Strong negotiation, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Estimating software and Microsoft Office experience.
  • Experience working with sub-suppliers, detailers, and customers on complex bids.
  • Bridge and/or industrial steel project experience is preferred.
  • BA/BS in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent industry experience considered.
