We are seeking an experienced and licensed Design Manager with a strong background in commercial construction to lead the design coordination process from concept through construction. The ideal candidate will be a licensed architect with excellent technical knowledge, project leadership skills, and the ability to effectively manage internal and external stakeholders. This role bridges design intent with construction execution, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality, code-compliant, and cost-effective commercial buildings.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design process across multiple commercial construction projects from pre-construction through completion.
Collaborate with owners, developers, consultants, and construction teams to ensure alignment between design vision and construction feasibility.
Review architectural and engineering plans for constructability, compliance with codes, and adherence to project goals.
Manage and coordinate the work of external design consultants, ensuring timely delivery of design documents and revisions.
Provide architectural leadership in RFIs, submittals, and design-related field issues during construction.
Assist in value engineering efforts without compromising design quality or performance.
Ensure that all designs meet applicable building codes, zoning regulations, and ADA standards.
Participate in budgeting, scheduling, and estimating processes to align design scope with project constraints.
Facilitate design meetings and maintain clear documentation of decisions and changes.
Mentor junior staff and promote design excellence within the organization.
Required Qualifications:
Licensed Architect (U.S. state licensure required; Florida preferred).
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
8+ years of progressive experience in architecture and/or design management, with a focus on commercial construction (office buildings, retail centers, mixed-use, etc.).
Strong knowledge of building codes, permitting processes, and construction practices.
Proven experience managing complex design and construction projects from concept through delivery.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and other industry-standard design tools.
Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working for a general contractor, developer, or design-build firm.
LEED or WELL accreditation is a plus.
Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project).
Strong negotiation skills and the ability to resolve conflicts in high-stakes environments.
